Abstract
The article deals with questions related to emigration and industrialisation in Portugal during the last quarter of 19th century. Starting with the analysis of general theories about migration and industrialisation in Portugal, the paper examines a north-western community, trying to understand how the phenomena of industrialisation and migration act in a small parish. It is important to underline that while the country, as a whole, had its flux of emigration increased, the chosen community presented a tendency of decreasing exits. Explain how and why this situation has happened is the aim of the article.Downloads
