THE FAMILY IN DEMOGRAPHIC TRANSITION: THE CASE OF SÃO PAULO
Abstract
The intention is to establish relations between the stages of demographical transition and the stages of socio-economical development, in the city of São Paulo, from 1900 up to now. The phase differences between these two types of phenomena lead to the discussion on the necessary mediations in the understanding of demographical transformations. The family is one of the significant meditations, which tends to have different forms for different social groups over the period. Besides that is the discussion on the role of internal and international migration in the shaping of this typology, through the insertion of the family members in production relations as well as through ideologies and cultural dimensions which surround the role of woman and children. A comparison is developed between this case and other situations of transition to capitalism.Downloads
